The Apostate X Part 1: When the Trumpets Blow is a powerful, deeply personal journey exploring the consequences of challenging established beliefs, breaking away from a high-control religious environment and finding a voice when silence is no longer an option.

For author Jess Shermo, this milestone represents more than a book showcase. It is an opportunity to bring her story to a wider audience, connect with new readers and continue building the legacy she hopes to leave for her children.

The journey didn't end in the Wilderness. It was only the beginning of something far more sinister.

Exhausted and battered, with no refuge, sleeping beneath a tangle of shrubs after a day and two nights of pursuing mysterious X's through the wilderness, Jess Shermo is taken in by a friendly couple, who wash and tend to her blistered, painful feet with a tenderness that echo's the biblical story of Christ's disciples.

But salvation doesn't mean the storm has passed.

Back behind the wheel of Mrs Bitchy, Jess sets out once again, abandoning the security of familiar life, she travels without a phone or map, guided by her faith and the Holy Spirit alone, she follows a path that leads her into the heart of North Queensland, where tropical rainforests conceal unsettling secrets and the line between coincidence and something far more disturbing begins to blur.

Along the way, she encounters unforgettable characters, including Poppa 2, who introduces her to the curious art of playing the spoons. Yet moments of human connection are overshadowed by increasingly bizarre and sinister experiences. Strange gatherings, crimson stained water, a plump, blond woman who keeps materializing and people who seem to be far too interested in her movements deepen her conviction that escape remains frustratingly out of reach.

Brock remains and oppressive presence in her thoughts, a relentless, parasite-like force which burrowing into her mind. Clinging to Eminem's Still Don't Give a Fuck on repeat, Jess fights to reclaim her mind, her independence and whatever remains of her defiance.  A drink is spiked and disturbing encounter leaves Jess Vulnerable. Another admission to another mental health ward follows. 

As a hurricane threatens the North Queensland's coast, Jess makes a desperate decision: head straight towards the approaching storm, hoping its fury will finally shake those pursuing her.

Instead, the journey takes a darker turn.

Seeking refuge in the breathtaking waterfalls and lush rainforests of tropical Queensland, she hopes the natural world might offer her some peace. But even there, the unexplained refuses to stay hidden. Campers seem to vanish, unfamiliar people wearing clothing Jess recognises and departures unfold in ways that leave her questioning everything she has witnessed.

Then a missing pair of scissors appears again under circumstances that are impossible to ignore - marked with blood and what looks to be human hair.

How far can someone run when the storm seems to follow wherever they go?

In The Apostate X Part 2, Jess Shermo continues a deeply personal and unsettling journey through fear, faith, isolation, survival and the relentless pursuit of truth.

The landscape is beautiful. The danger is constantly lurking in the shadows. And clues keep appearing, but the answers remain frustratingly out of reach.

Some storms cannot be outrun.
